FINE ART: OYSTERS
Ink
Acrylic paint
Felt on hessian
Mixed media: felt, biro, pencil, marker
Dry point etching & stamping
Pastels, coal and chalk
Inspired by Georgia O’Keefe’s ‘Iris II’, I carried out a study of body positivity using abstract items that subtly allude to the female form. I have carried out a multimedia study, with pens, ink, felt, biro- sketching and re-sketching the same two oyster shells, getting all of their intricate details documented.
The slight curve in the shell of an oyster then led me to look at the other potential similarity between the oyster and the female form: the uterus during pregnancy. I made etchings and stamps using oil paints to see if I can recreate the image of an ultrasound.
