Following Rosalind Franklin’s discoveries about the shape of DNA, the play also touches on the interpersonal relationships in her life at the time. The men in the script talk about her often, so I wanted an isolation between the space where Rosalind exists and the soapbox where her male colleagues speak from. I wanted to reflect the pressure Rosaling feels by designing the performance in the round, and in tiered, courtroom-like seating- or perhaps operating theatre style. The layout also suggest being looked at through a microscope, which would be reflected in the way scenes are lit during the performance.
